Endodontics

What is endodontics?

Endodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with diseases of the pulp (cavity in which the dental nerve is located). There is a pulp in every tooth. This is living tissue consisting of nerve fibers and blood vessels. An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in performing endodontic treatments (root canal treatments using a microscope).

Why a root canal treatment?

inflamed. This can be the result of tooth decay, a leaking or deep filling, or trauma to a tooth. When the nerve becomes inflamed and dies, the bacteria present can cause inflammation of the root tip. If the inflammation is not controlled in time, you will eventually lose your tooth.

Treatment

Root canal treatment can be performed painlessly using local anesthesia. The endodontist cleans the root canals and removes bacteria through a small hole in your molar or tooth. Afterwards the canals are filled and a filling is placed in the tooth.
